Our philosophyLife at SMS digital
Digitalization is not something you can buy, it is a process. For us, it is important that we are seen not just as a supplier of digital solutions, but rather as a partner who supports and guides customers on the path to digitalization. That is why we work closely with our customers to develop tailored solutions, align future-oriented technologies with our customers' needs, and thus enable consistent autonomization and digitalization – always with the goal of optimizing the whole value chain. We achieve this thanks to the unique combination of metallurgical know-how, 150 years of experience in plant design and construction, and advanced expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
According to Design Thinking we identify the problem together with the customer. Because only if we truly understand the customer’s issue, we can develop innovative products or services, that are utterly user-oriented, as well as feasible and marketable.
During the development, we do not only speak about possible ideas. With the help of so called scribbles and click dummies we make them visible with prototypes, as early as possible. Thus, potential users can test the solution from the beginning of the development through to the market launch and give valuable feedback.
It is important to us to create a solution that at first only contains the most essential features for the elimination of the pain points and is marketable as soon as possible. For this purpose, we utilize so called MVPs (minimum viable product – minimal version of a product that only contains basic features). With their help, the main hypotheses can quickly be tested. This way we focus on the development of truly valuable features and pick up pace.
With the help of MVPs the first users can influence the development of the product with feedback and ideas for improvement at an early stage. This way we can verify from the beginning if the product is accepted on the market or if it can be realized with all technical requirements. We prefer to fail early in the process and learn – without high costs - than after a long and expensive development.
If we detect that adjustments are necessary, we can implement them timely and fast. With feedback from the market we continuously improve the product which in the end meets the requirements and wishes of the customer or the market
